Nuclear Medicine

About Nuclear Medicine

The Department of Nuclear Medicine in Breach Candy Hospital Trust falls under the broad umbrella of Medical Imaging and provides diagnostic imaging and radionuclide therapy services. Equipped with expert consultant, state-of-the-art PET CT scanner and SPECT CT system, this department provides facilities that are at par with international standards. Most of the current nuclear medicine practices in the department are diagnostic tests. There are few radio-nuclide therapies are carried out currently using unsealed radioactivity.

Note: If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant, it is very important that you notify imaging technologist before your Nuclear Imaging procedure. Exposure to radiation can be harmful to an unborn baby.

No special preparation is required for scans involving the bones, thyroid-endocrine glands, lymphatic, brain, renal and pulmonary systems. For PET scan 6 hour fasting is required and for Myocardial Perfusion scan 3 -4 hour fasting required. Certain tests need to hold certain medicines. Details can be discussed with NM physician.
