About Neurology

The hospital has a panel of consultant neurologists, neurosurgeons and neurointerventionists who are available to manage neurological emergencies such as stroke, loss consciousness, seizures, generalized muscular paralysis e.g. Guillain Barre polyneuritis.

In addition, patients with wide range of non- neurological conditions are seen by neurologists in the outpatient clinics, such as headaches, memory and cognitive disorders, vertigo, Parkinson's disease, chronic epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal nerve root disease, peripheral neuropathy and muscle disorders.

These clinical activities are supported by special departments e.g. MRI, CT, and PET scanning, cardiac catheter and the neurophysiology department.

The Department also performs screening tests for hearing impairment on all babies born in the hospital.

The Neurophysiology Department was begun in 1997. It routinely conducts the range of neurodiagnostic procedures such as electroencephalography (EEG, essential in seizure disorder and unconsciousness), nerve conduction and electromyography (NC/EMG, for peripheral nerve and muscle diseases), and evoked potentials (Visual VEP, brainstem auditory BAEP, and somatosensory SSEP, for the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis and related conditions). The tests are conducted by experienced neurotechnicians, and reported by senior neurologists.
